This introductory course is ideal for those interested in keeping a few chickens with both theoretical and practical sessions. Find out how to source the right chickens for you; general husbandry such as housing, feed, and range management; chicken behaviour and welfare and animal handling.


Incubation for Poultry

A one day course covering all aspects of rearing your own poultry. This includes equipment, choosing hatching eggs, incubation and storage, and rearing chickens to point of lay.

Soil: The Key to a Successful Smallholding

Understanding the soil is the basis to a successful smallholding. This is a day dedicated to dirt: understanding soil types, textures and tests; what grows where; feeding the soil; spotting and dealing with potential problems. You are welcome to bring samples of your own soil to analyse on the day.

New Woodlands - Planning it, Planting it, Funding it!

A both practical and theoretical day course for those who are looking to establish a new woodland. This course takes you through the planning stages, looking at different tree species and which plants suits which environment. You will then learn how to plant your saplings and the different techniques that can be used. Finally we look at the funding options and grant schemes.
